LUCENT BODY ...

April 2024.

Boston, Massachusetts.

Photos by Vilija Kuzmickas.

Muscovite mica flake, metal and plastic beads, candle wick tabs, glue, cardboard, paint, foam wreaths, zinc screw eye hooks.

If the female body has been flattened into mechanism and spectacle, how can it take that machinic language back and rebuild itself on its own terms? What does a body-machine look like when it carries power and intricacy without getting swallowed by the same gaze that tried to define it?

LUCENT BODY imagines this body-machine as an outward-growing form that reclaims space instead of offering itself up. Built from materials drawn from technology, nature, and art, it becomes part organ, part armor, an embodied mechanism that carries power through presence and protection. This body-machine resists being consumed by the gaze; it insists on its own complexity, rewriting femininity through expansion, control, and refusal.
